Holi is celebrated on the full moon day in the month of Phalugna or Falguna (Phalgun Purnima),[its according to the hindu calender] which usually falls in the later part of February or March. Holi (Dhulandi) and Holika Dahan . Holi, also called the Festival of Colours
Bonfires are lit the day before, also known as Holika Dahan (death of Holika)
Holi is celebrated by people throwing coloured powder and coloured water at each other.Colors and 'gulal' are showered on the people without any distinction of caste, creed, color or sex. Children with 'pichkaris' (big syringes to squirt colored water) and faces smeared with color look adorable. People exchange good wishes, sweets and gifts. Holi parties are organized in the grounds where people dance to the rhythmic beats of the drums and sing Holi songs. Light snacks and milk-based cool drink known as 'Thandai' are often served in these parties that may be intoxicated with 'bhaang'.
Rangapanchami occurs a few days later on a Panchami (fifth day of the full moon), marking the end of festivities involving colours.
